An Operators GuideFM 01-47

The Foundation of Built to Operate

An Operators Guide (FM 01-47) is a practical field manual for individuals seeking greater discipline, purpose, accountability, and self-awareness.

More than a book, FM 01-47 provides a framework for understanding yourself, establishing personal standards, and developing the habits necessary to perform at a higher level in every area of life.

Through reflection exercises, practical tools, and actionable principles, readers learn how to take ownership of their decisions, strengthen their character, improve relationships, and create systems that work under pressure.

FM 01-47 is not about motivation.

It is about developing a standard.

A standard for how you think.

A standard for how you act.

A standard for how you lead yourself and contribute to others.

01 What Is an Operator?
An Operator is someone who accepts responsibility, maintains standards, adapts under pressure, and contributes to something greater than themselves. Operators focus on what they can control and consistently strive to improve.
02 Why Standards Matter
Outcomes are often unpredictable. Standards are not. Individuals and teams that commit to clear standards create consistency, accountability, trust, and long-term success.
03 The Foundation of High-Performing Teams
Strong teams begin with strong individuals. Self-awareness, accountability, communication, and trust form the foundation upon which high-performing teams are built.
04 Who FM 01-47 Is For
Originally written for men, the principles within FM 01-47 apply to anyone seeking personal growth, stronger relationships, greater accountability, and improved performance in life, work, athletics, or leadership.
05 How FM 01-47 Is Used
FM 01-47 serves as the first step within the Built to Operate system. It develops self-awareness and personal accountability before progressing into team awareness and organizational performance.
06 Meet the Author

Lee Busby spent more than two decades serving in elite military organizations, including the 75th Ranger Regiment and one of the nations premier special operations units. Throughout his career, he learned that success under pressure depends on discipline, trust, communication, accountability, and self-awareness.

FM 01-47 was written from those lessons and experiences. While originally designed as a field manual for men, its principles apply to anyone committed to becoming more effective in life, work, and relationships.
